With over 20 years of experience in human resource strategy and business operations, Jeremy has advised leaders at all organizational levels on critical business and people-related challenges. Jeremy's expertise lies in seeing the "big picture" and translating complex business needs into practical, relationship-focused solutions. Under his guidance, organizations have strengthened employee relations, enhanced performance, and cultivated cultures built on mutual trust and respect. His approach emphasizes that behind every business task is a human being, and sustainable success comes through investing in authentic relationships rather than simply managing processes. An accomplished educator, Jeremy served as adjunct faculty at Purdue University Indianapolis for over 15 years, teaching leadership and human resources curricula. He holds a master's degree in management from Indiana Wesleyan University and a bachelor's degree in organizational leadership from Purdue University. Jeremy is a sought-after national speaker and currently serves as an advisor for the Society for Human Resource Management's Education Team.

Executive Summary

Organizations that excel at talent retention understand that strategic conversations are the key to keeping their best people. This session focuses on three critical HR interview practices that, when used strategically, can dramatically improve your ability to attract, retain, and learn from talent. Participants will explore how to leverage behavior-based candidate job interviews to hire for long-term success, implement stay interviews to proactively address retention risks, and conduct exit interviews that generate actionable insights for organizational improvement. Through practical frameworks and proven techniques, leaders will discover how these three strategic interview approaches work together to create a comprehensive talent retention strategy that builds stronger teams and reduces costly turnover.

 Learning Objectives

Master behavior-based candidate job interviews to improve hiring accuracy by identifying candidates who will thrive long-term in your organization and culture.

Implement effective stay interview strategies that proactively identify retention risks, strengthen employee engagement, and address concerns before they lead to turnover.

Transform exit interviews into strategic retention tools that uncover systemic organizational issues and generate specific, actionable recommendations for preventing future departures.
